Senate moves to tougher fuel economy and ethanol goals
The Senate pushes energy legislation to raise fuel economy to 35 mpg and boost ethanol use to 36 billion gallons by 2022 while promoting plug in hybrids and lithium ion batteries. It would reduce oil demand and require more efficient, smaller vehicles though automakers warn of shifting model mixes. The House drafts its version as debates continue about how to meet stricter standards.
