Mingo board approves Williamson Burch Matewan school consolidation
The Mingo County school board voted 4-1 to consolidate Williamson, Burch and Matewan high schools despite a lawsuit seeking to halt the plan. A new school will be built atop a reclaimed surface mine site, as the district faces shrinking enrollment and high operating costs.
