Murder Misdeeds and Depot Fate Highlight Rural News
Last week in the Cumberland Mountains between the Breaks and High Narrows a murder occurred. Gilbert Hall shot and killed Jim Sweeney after a long feud. Hall, a whiskey dealer, boasted of 18 years selling liquor and a heavy fines record. Sweeney had a violent past. Hall’s cabin near the state line led to a dramatic chase as a woman escaped to mountains. In Iron ton, Norfolk and Western depot plans emerge with a 200 by 50 foot iron and brick structure to be erected within three months at an estimated 50,000 dollars with comprehensive facilities.
