Rocket Boys Day Festival Highlights Space Shuttle Visit
The second annual Rocket Boys Day festival will run Saturday in Coalwood from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A 13 foot scale model space shuttle on lifetime loan from NASA will arrive today. Homer H. Sonny Hickam Jr and Willie Rose will attend with Jimmy Carroll, as Gov. Cecil Underwood is set to arrive at 1 p.m. NASA recently confirmed the model is a loan to honor Hickam's NASA career. The shuttle will be displayed near Route 16 across from Country Corner. Autographs will be signed by Hickam Rose and Carroll, with rocket launches, hayrides, live music, and a park fund drive planned. Proceeds support park maintenance.
