Funds could allow new tourism director
In Tazewell County a proposed 3 percent rise in the transient occupancy tax could fund a full time tourism director and a tourism development budget. Susan White of the Tazewell Area Chamber of Commerce says the tourism committee voted to seek the extra funds and will ask county supervisors to hire a director and create a budgeting plan. The tax increase would lift the rate from 2 to 5 percent and could generate about 70 000 to 90 000 dollars for tourism efforts.
