Motorcyclist killed in Route 10 pass near Lashmeet
Donnie Knight Jr. 18, of Princeton, died after his motorcycle collided with a Ford F-250 turning left near Lashmeet Route 10. Knight was pronounced dead on arrival at Princeton Community Hospital. The crash, which occurred about 4:15 p.m., remains under investigation with Mercer County Sheriff’s Office providing details. Knight was the son of retired Princeton Police Chief Donnie Knight.

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that bans on cross burning and similar expressions of racial bias violate free speech. The decision struck down a St. Paul Minnesota ordinance but noted many local laws may remain constitutional. Justice Scalia argued the law unlawfully added First Amendment protection to hateful viewpoint. The ruling allows cross burning to be punished only under trespass or property destruction laws.

Boys Rescue Elderly Woman From Creek Embankment
Two boys Robert Jennings and Albert Smith heard 71 year old Verna Orlick crying for help after the bank gave way and she hung onto a bush 18 feet down near Route 52. They called 911 and helped steer passersby to pull her up as Rescue Squad arrived. Orlick suffered bruises and cuts but refused hospital exam, crediting faith and the youths for saving her life.
