Wilander Eyes Grass Improvement After Tough Wimbledon Win
Mats Wilander, Sweden’s rising star since Borg’s retirement, advanced to the Wimbledon second round after a five set win over John Fitzgerald. He praised the victory as his best grass performance yet but stressed the need to sharpen first serve and volleying to contend for the title. The match, halted by darkness at two sets apiece, tested Wilander’s nerve as Fitzgerald pressed with speed and precise volleys.

Ayala Receives 15 Year Minimum Term in NJ Case
Former top boxing contender Tony Ayala Jr. received a 35 year sentence with a 15 year minimum for sexual assault and chose to serve at Passaic County Jail rather than a state prison. Sheriff Englehardt said Ayala, 20, is a model prisoner and may be transferred later as the jail houses about 200 state inmates and holds a minimum 50 state prisoners.
