Market slips as investors wait on CPI data
New York stocks eased Monday as the Dow index fell 1.99 to 994.20. Airline shares rose on news a tentative settlement avoided a strike by air controllers, while oil and bank stocks mostly declined amid mixed inflation signals. Conoco jumped on merger talks, and lenders raised prime rates to 20 percent as the market priced in potential rate declines later.
