Slurry Project Considered for Carteret County NC
Carteret County is eyed as a possible site for the nation’s first offshore coal slurry facility. Whelebrater-Frye Inc proposes a mainland coal-handling plant with rail delivery, mixing in water, and piping seven to 10 miles offshore to load coal onto ships. Scotts Hill in Pender County is the other North Carolina site under study. The Black Mesa slurry currently transports coal 200 miles by land from Arizona to Nevada.
