Mercer County plans to demolish the old health department in Green Valley and replace it with a new 18 000 square foot facility funded by 4 2 million from Byrd Rahall and Shott Foundation. Bids and final design review set after HRSA funding release. construction could start in October with bids out in summer.

Service dog in jury box marks cruelty case verdict
In Dale City a 53 year old woman Janet Hollins pleaded guilty to 40 counts of animal cruelty as her second trial opened with a service dog in the jury box. Police seized 27 dogs and 50 cats from her townhouse last August and she had previous conviction for inadequate care overturned on appeal. Probation and a leave of absence from the county were sentenced.
