Keystone officer remains on duty despite staffing gap
Mayor William Buck Wade said Keystone maintains police protection with one on duty officer aided by the McDowell County Sheriff's Department and the West Virginia State Police Welch Detachment. An officer is handling extra duties after Police Chief S P McKinney resigned effective July 1. Officer Matthew Savidge remains on administrative leave amid a first degree sexual abuse investigation involving a juvenile. The town plans to fill two grant funded positions, aimed at restoring a three-officer force once supported by a justice department grant. McKinney stated he enjoyed his tenure and will pursue law enforcement elsewhere.
