Inmate given 27 months for Clinton threat in Beckley
Troy Spears, 25, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Chuck Chambers in Beckley to 27 months in prison for threatening to kill President Clinton and rape his wife and daughter. He mailed the letter June 19, 1998 from Mount Olive Correctional Complex, where he serves a 60 year sentence for an earlier 1993 attempted murder and aggravated robbery. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Crawford said the threat letter was mailed after he did not receive a reply to a prior letter.
