Lackey Withholds Support Of Bond Issue Until Oakvale Reopens

Mercer County Board of Education member elect Dr. Allen Lackey says he will not back any county school bond issue until Oakvale High School is restored. He and fellow Oakvale native James Oxley will join the board in January, while current members depart. Lackey cites the Oakvale dispute, Preservation Association opposition, and questions about costs, noting a bond proposal could top 20 million for countywide upgrades but would fail if Oakvale remains closed. He criticizes state fire marshal concerns as scare tactics and defends proposed school modernization costs, arguing the district needs improved facilities despite opposition.
