Pansy Ruth Stanley, six, died near Flat Top at 6 30 PM Saturday when struck by a speeding car. Three Black men from Vanwood and Princeton—Alex Moore Ed Smith and James Wilson—were jailed at Mercer county pending a magistrate hearing as investigators assess faulty brakes and reckless driving. Witnesses say the other vehicle slowed after the impact and a bystander heard a frightened reaction, while the driver accused the other car of danger before the fatal strike. Pansy Ruth was the daughter of Mr and Mrs E E Stanley of Flat Top.

Ray mond C. Sparig, 35, escaped patient and World War veteran, hurled his wife Gertrude and their four children from West Rock cliff in Ansonia. He then killed himself by leaping 75 feet below the summit as thousands watched. Four bodies recovered. two others taken to hospital. Witnesses described a chaotic scene at a city park overlook.

Former Representative C Bascom Slemp declined the Republican nomination for Congress in Virginia’s ninth district at a Big Stone Gap meeting. A Bristol convention on July 12 will nominate a candidate to oppose J W Flannagan. Slemp, ex secretary to President Coolidge, offered to serve as temporary chairman and suggested party unity while noting district Republicans are in good shape fiscally. The meeting drew about one hundred Republicans visiting Slemp’s home, with Slemp hosting lunch and a tour including his father Col Campbell Slemp’s tomb.

Parkersburg, June 21 A diver, William Province aged 25, drowned in the Ohio River when a makeshift diving board failed. He was held by an undercurrent in a dredge hole and his body was later recovered.
Bascom Slemp, former congressman, yesterday declined to enter the race for Congress from Virginia Ninth District. Slemp was nominated at the Bristol convention in March.
A West Virginia federal court reported multiple guilty pleas with 31 defendants taking pleas. Hubert Seabolt was found guilty on conspiracy and possession charges while acquitted on manufacture. He received two years with a 40 day stay for appeal. Additional sentences totaled 17 years and 3 months in prison or jail with $375 in fines and several probation terms.
Valbuena Field Mexico June 21 The first nonstop flight from New York to Mexico City was completed by Col Roberto Fierro covering about 2300 miles in 16 hours 35 minutes He landed solo after missing an escort to a muddy field and was greeted by roaring crowds and officials Viva Fierro Viva Mexico Fueled by pride he and mechanic Arnulfo Cortes were carried into the Emilio Carranza hangar where President Ortiz Rubio and War Secretary Amaro welcomed them
Charleston, June 21. The westbound Crack Sportsman flyer of the Chesapeake and Ohio derailed near Hawks Nest sixty miles from Charleston. Engineer Homer Haskell of Huntington was killed. fireman seriously burned. four others injured, two seriously. Injured were W Clemente Richmond Sherman Bostic Hinton Mary Burke Clifton Forge. Three injured taken to Montgomery Hospital. others treated at the scene. Cause undetermined. wreck train sent from Hinton to scene. train to Detroit resumed about three and a half hours late.
