Wild engine runs miles before crash at Big Stone Gap
A Louisville and Nashville freight engine with a loose throttle or tampering caused a wild dash along the L & N tracks toward Big Stone Gap. The engine rolled eighteen miles before colliding head on with a freight locomotive. The engineer was injured. both engines remained on the rails, and officials feared further danger until the crash ended the chase.

Arrest Made In Blenfield Store Theft Case
George Evans was arrested in Blenfield on a warrant charging burglary at Harman's store in West Graham Friday night. Police used bloodhounds to follow a trail to Evans home on Stony Ridge, where a watch chain linked to the theft was found. Evans, a hymn writer and choir singer, denied the charges and remained in Bluefield jail as the case goes to the grand jury.

Street Improvements Use Slag On Main Graham Road
The new street around the school in Graham has been completed except for dust and top dressing. An experiment used furnace slag instead of limestone, costing about one eighth the usual price. State highway supervision oversaw the project, with J. t. Nulty and Gordon Carter handling details. A $2000 county bond allocation funded the work, and the result is praised as high quality. Sunday School Convention will be held at North Tazewell with notable speakers and a long list of canteen contributions from local groups. The Graham Red Sox schedule a game with Bluefield Moose at the fairgrounds, with plans for a local ball diamond and new players returning soon. Private Charley Davis’s monument by R. Kelly of Graham Marble Works is completed. ten monuments were shipped recently.
