Pirates of the Comet and castaway crew near Mannar Gulf
In 1884 the British survey ship Comet, crewed by ten half caste mutineers led by Dondra, seized vessels off Ceylon, killing crews and sinking the brig after pursuit by a Serpent. Two months later five mutineers fled to Mannar Gulf. Also recounted is a later rescue of five men found adrift near the Malabe coast by the Southland, with a reward offered.
