Certification not necessary for chief deputy duties
Mercer County Sheriff Buckner states chief deputy Robert Baughman, who lacks current law enforcement recertification, can continue supervisory duties as administrator. Baughman says he is a political appointee not a law enforcement officer and would need 200 plus hours of training for recertification, a path he does not plan to pursue. The deputy sheriff association seeks legal clarity, urging certification for authority over enforcement personnel.
