West Virginia rejects tougher controls for drifting air pollution
Charleston AP West Virginia joined four other states in a 37 state group in rejecting tougher cross border air pollution controls. The plan would curb emissions from Midwest power plants to meet federal smog standards and could affect Charleston and Huntington development and federal highway funding. The EPA aims to cut nitrogen oxide emissions from 3 million tons to 1 million tons across 37 states. Regional control strategies are needed as independent states cannot cap cross border pollution.
