Stocks slip as profit taking tempers market gains
New York traders cooled after a record run as investors sought profits. The Dow fell 3.12 to 4550.56 while the Nasdaq outpaced peers thanks to tech strength. NYSE breadth showed more declines, and volume rose from the prior session. A government housing starts dip and rate declines tempered optimism about the economy.

Letter to the Editor Questions Levy Legality in Mercer County
Ms Joan E Byrd of Princeton West Virginia questions why a five million dollar excess school levy was not adjusted to comply with state laws. She outlines how officials refused to act, cites encounters with the Board of Education attorney and local authorities, and argues the Supreme Court should uphold Judge Burnside’s ruling and enforce the law. The letter criticizes elected and appointed leaders for defying legal process and asks who is truly responsible.

The Senate voted 65 to 35 to table an effort restoring the 55 mph cap for cars as part of the highway bill item. Officials kept the speed limit for trucks at 55 mph with a 51 to 49 vote.
