Judicial Budget Control Amendment Likely to Start Next Session
West Virginia Senate President Brotherton said the Supreme Court ruling on the judicial budget strengthens prospects for a constitutional amendment that would give the Legislature parallel fiscal power over the judiciary. The proposed change would strike a 1968 language prohibiting reductions in judiciary funding and require voter ratification. The measure has seen earlier House and Senate sponsors stall or die in committee. it is expected to be reintroduced in 1979.
