Milk Cow and Cud: How Cattle Digest Plants
A simple overview explains that cows eat grass and cornstalks. Their four part stomach lets them chew, swallow, and regurgitate for re chewing, a process called cud. The text invites unscrambling foods obtained from cows.
Milk production process and cow milking rates
The milk is pumped into a refrigerated truck for transport to a dairy plant. Milk is pasteurized by heating to 161 degrees for at least 15 seconds and then cooled rapidly. A healthy cow yields about 90 eight ounce glasses daily. Machines can milk up to 100 cows per hour.
