Tax Protesters Lose IRS Battle in Parkersburg
A Parkersburg couple, Steve and Wendy Tuck, who refused federal income taxes for two years citing military funding concerns, paid two years of back taxes after IRS pressure. They directed the payment to their pastor, Frank Wade, who handed it to the government. The couple criticized military spending while noting their wish to earmark taxes for non military uses. The IRS proceeded with levies and liens in 1982 and 1983, seizing funds and threatening further action before their 1982 refund settled penalties.
