Miller Asks Probe of Title Insurance Firms
Virginia Attorney General Andrew P. Miller urged the State Corporation Commission to hold hearings this fall on title insurance practices. Mississippi Supreme Court declines death penalty abolition
The Mississippi Supreme Court on Monday refused to strike down capital punishment as cruel or unusual and questioned if abolishing it fits constitutional standards. Chief Justice Robert Gillespie affirmed the death sentence for Fred Peterson in a Stone County murder, citing historical sanction and deterrence. The court also rejected Peterson’s challenge to jury qualification rules, ruling equal protection does not require a lower bar for jurors.
