Paris June 19 Premier Leon Blum faced a crisis as the senate rejected his emergency powers bill by 188 to 72. The chamber’s finance committee revived the measure by 26 to 16, clearing the way for a second vote. Blum avoided immediate resignation by refraining from testing confidence and awaited another senate decision amid cabinet strain.
Radio signals picked up by the Canadian Signal Corps indicate a perilous flight is underway from Augia toward UO. The Trans-Polar hop may reach Oakland around 3 o'clock this afternoon.
The Soviet airmen completing a Moscow to San Francisco nonstop flight were reported by Canadian signals to be about 100 miles south of Fort Norman and then near the McKenzie Liard confluence as they closed on California. Weather was fair, and they were averaging roughly 125 miles per hour with over 4000 miles covered in 44 hours 40 minutes since leaving Moscow.

She will be crowned by Governor A B Chandler of Kentucky July 2 after a street parade attended by 19 princesses from Southwest Virginia and aides from Tennessee West Virginia and later lead the governors ball grand march.
National Association of Railroad and Public Utility Commissioners president Alex Mahood announced that the next annual convention will include a discussion of rural electrification administration. REA Administrator John Carmody, who criticized delays in organizing electrification societies in West Virginia, will be invited. Mahood and 20 commissioners’ executive board members will meet to plan the 1938 program in Salt Lake City.
Stony Brook New York January 19 the hunt for Mrs Alice McDowell Parsons a Long Island society matron who vanished from her home a week earlier slowed after 20 federal agents withdrew leaving about a score still on site. A $25000 ransom note found the day of disappearance prompted the investigation with volunteers and others continuing in the area.
In Youngstown Ohio on June 19 a deadly clash erupted between police and striking workers of the Perrepublic Steel plant. One man John Bogovich was killed and eleven reported injured including Thomas Osraby and Ed Salt. Police fired tear gas into protesting women supporters as pickets blocked roads and rioters surged toward the plant. Authorities arrested eight unnamed men and sought state troops as the riot drew police from surrounding areas.
The Associated Press reports a large Cam steel plant in Johnstown Pennsylvania received a shutdown order on June 29. The action affects hundreds of workers and halts production at the facility pending further notice.
Sir James M. Barrie creator of Peter Pan died in a London nursing home with the original Peter Pan at his bedside. His adopted son Peter Davies witnessed the death after a long illness that began with bronchial pneumonia. Funeral services were planned for Kirriemuir, the Scottish village where Barrie was born.
Mullens West Virginia June 19 A slate fall killed Swanee Hart while he worked in the C H Coal company mine at East Gulf in a fatal incident during the day.
