Democratic Convention in Ritchie County Faces Split Over Sheriff Nomination
The Ritchie County Democratic convention wrestled with two proposals. John Starr, defeated by Ben Hill in the Republican sheriff race, offered to run as an independent and back the Democratic congressional candidate if no sheriff nomination was made. Hill supporters urged action to aid moving the county seat to Pennsboro. After two hours the executive committee postponed the convention, and a second convention then followed with no resolution.
