Gubernatorial candidates urged to defend coal charges

Charleston based attorney J Davitt McAteer called on Gov Arch Moore and Democratic contender John Rockefeller to act on charges of corporate irresponsibility at Consolation Coal Company. He cited a 1968 Farmington mine disaster resulting in 78 deaths and alleged inadequate safety, limited widows pay, and insufficient compensation to 144 children amid environmental damage in West Virginia.
