No Tax Hike Says Bluefield City Manager

Bluefield city manager Dolph Whittle told the Rotary Club that a proposed half million dollar capital improvement bond referendum next Tuesday will not raise taxes. He outlined nine projects and focused on financing, noting $33,000 annual payments for two years, to be offset by $30,000 in current fire truck revenues. He said after the first payment the city will have paid off fire equipment and the $30,000 then helps retire the bonds. The city now pays about $12,000 yearly to Leatherwood Co for City Park, and bond approval would allow final City Park acquisition, freeing that $12,000 for bond payments. The Rotary meeting was at the West Virginian Hotel at noon.
