Lake Placid N Y June 18 Associate Justice Charles E Hughes of the United States Supreme Court said his decision not to permit the use of his name before the Republican national convention in Chicago was final He confirmed to an AP representative that he telephoned friends in New York and telegraphed others in Chicago that he would not permit his name to be used and asked that mention of him be stopped.
President Taft and Mrs. Taft watched Washington defeat Philadelphia for the club’s seventeenth straight win. Vice President Sherman, Secretary Knox and their spouses joined a crowd of about 25 000 at the ballpark along with several senators and representatives.
