A three foot male kangaroo, or wallaby, has wandered western Jackson County for months. Conservation officer Clyde Armstead said residents report sighting the animal mainly at night or dawn in backyards and on rural roads. Some think it may belong to an exotic animal farm in Evans.
Clarksville AP report states Jessica Erskine, former Salem resident, was arrested in Washtenaw County Michigan for ownership of a pit bull linked to a October attack that injured 11 year old Sierra Ash in Salem. The dog was seized and placed in secure custody after escaping quarantine.
Wytheville hosts the 21st annual Chautauqua Festival June 18 to 26 at Elizabeth Brown Memorial Park. Hurricane police reported a two car Easterly crash on Interstate 64 that killed 65 year old Tom Easterly of Beckley and 59 year old Linda Coulter of Culloden. Easterly, a former Kentucky and Florida lawmaker and aspiring West Virginia political candidate, attempted a U turn when his eastbound car cut across both lanes before colliding broadside with Coulter’s vehicle. Both drivers died at the scene.
The West Virginia Supreme Court rules a deceased mother’s partner may gain custody as a psychological parent, upholding a non biological bond. Justice Davis notes such a relationship, begun with the legal guardian’s consent, can become a custodial right, while dissenters plan opinions.
