Fired Deputy Hager seeks civil service hearing
Former Mercer County Deputy Sheriff Douglas E. Hager told the Daily Telegraph he has requested a Civil Service hearing after being terminated from duty at 3 p.m. Monday for going out of service and allegedly failing to notify the dispatcher. He contends the firing was unfair and that he did inform the Omelette Shoppe for possible contact. Sheriff Donald Hare said the dismissal was based on duty neglect and questioned the shift change and radio procedures. The case follows a past incident in July 1979 involving pistol firing by Hager and another deputy.
