Glen Ferris West Virginia report says George W. Thompson 57 shot and killed his wife Lena Mae Thompson 49 as she slept in an upstairs room during a severe electrical storm. Virginia Girl Drowns as Sister Rescued
In Yorktown Virginia a 19 year old Richmond girl Louise Featherstone drowned after stepping into water over her head in the York River near Point of Rocks while her 14 year old sister Mary Featherstone, also unable to swim, was rescued by an unidentified man in a passing motorboat. A third sister Anne 16 watched from a rowboat as the tragedy unfolded. The body had not been recovered.

Blaze Destroys Multi Million Plant in Winter Haven
The Polk Packing plant in Eloise near Winter Haven, Florida, suffered a fire that destroyed multiple buildings on a 10 acre site. The UMW was found in violation of the T-H law by the National Labor Board in connection with the Harlan campaign. Parachutist David Earl Long 34 of Lock Haven Pa died after leaping from a plane near Mlieantt, N C. The craft crashed nose down after a 200 foot jump in a spin. Long was identified as a World War II air force lieutenant and chief designer for Piper Aircraft. His body was taken to Granite Falls funeral home.
