Father’s Day spending and participation amid evolving American families

Father’s Day is a national observance since 1924 with spending gaps to Mother’s Day. NRF reports Mother's Day at 15.7 billion dollars versus 9.9 billion for Father’s Day, and averages of 139 versus 98 dollars. Despite family meal declines, Census data show 64.3 million fathers living with children, 2.5 million single fathers, 150,000 stay at home dads, and only about two thirds of young children eat with their fathers daily. More than half of young children under six are praised by fathers three or more times daily, illustrating room for improvement.
