Mercer County bid eyed for high school football finals
Former Delaware official Marty Gearheart leads a local push to rotate West Virginia high school football state finals from Wheeling to Mercer County. The plan, presented to WVSSAC, targets A, AA and AAA games and cites Wheeling traffic and ongoing bridge work as delays. Gearheart, Josh Cline, and Jamie Null argued the move would ease Wheeling area congestion during the two year bridge renovations.
