Stocks Fall as Strong Dollar Drives Commodity Slump
The Dow dropped 187.13 points 2.1 percent to 8612.13 and the S P 500 fell 22.49 2.4 percent while the Nasdaq slid 42.42 2.3 percent as a stronger dollar pushed oil and materials lower. Overseas markets also declined with Japan down 1 percent and Europe mostly lower. Analysts warn the market may struggle to sustain a spring rally amid unemployment and inflation concerns. Alcoa and Freeport-McMoRan declined as Goldman Sachs trimmed Walmart to Neutral ahead of earnings reports from Best Buy FedEx and Research in Motion. Volume remained light with about 4.55 billion shares traded on the NYSE.
