Gibson sentencing delayed amid scheduling conflicts in WV
Mercer County drug dealer Maurice Taft Gibson 33 of Bluefield was to be sentenced June 19 in Charleston but the date was pushed to July 26 with a possible further delay due to a defense scheduling conflict. A federal jury found him guilty on 15 counts of a 20 count indictment, while three counts were dismissed after the defense argued the government failed to notify about prior inconsistent statements by a key witness. The case also involved evidence about two Bluefield area murders in 2002 and 2005 reviewed in Charleston earlier. The court had not ruled on the defense motion to continue the sentencing as of Friday afternoon.
