Local Blanket Plant to Close and Move to Waynesboro

Esmond Virginia blanket plant manager W A Laney announced the Hale Culvert site will close and equipment move to Waynesboro Virginia to consolidate with the main factory. Seventy five employees will be transferred or choose other options, not all will move. A week’s paid vacation will be provided regardless. The move follows the failed Bluefield building purchase and yarn shortages limiting capacity. The Bluefield loss will hit the town with many layoffs and reduced payroll.
