Big Sandy coal field outline in Virginia and Kentucky
A Courier correction notes the undeveloped Big Sandy field spans Buchanan Dickenson Wise counties in Virginia and Pike County Kentucky. The Elkhorn seam yields low sulphur coke, with rich by products, and the field would be served by rail and river routes improving access to Cincinnati. Companies owning land include Elkhorn Coal and Coke Company of Boston and Virginia Lion Coal and Coke Company of Bristol.
