Rainy spring dampens outdoor businesses across Bluefield area
Spring rains reduced local outings hitting golf courses, state parks, and campgrounds. At Richwood Golf Course Mike Miles reports fewer players and poorer course conditions. Pipestem Resort State Park saw 10 to 15 percent fewer golfers and about 10 percent fewer campers, with 22 rain days in May. Some venues, like Appalachian Wildwater rafting, benefited from higher water levels, while others such as Green Acres Campgrounds and Crab Orchard Museum suffered lower attendance. Overall, many businesses cited lingering weather, gas prices, and economic factors as part of weaker spring demand.
