New York stocks recovered from early weakness to hit record highs as investors priced in signals of a weakening economy and trading activity tied to Friday's expiration of options and futures. The Dow rose 6.57 to 4491.08, with broad indices also posting gains.
Business and civic leaders joined a Wednesday ribbon cutting at Acme Super Market in Westgate Shopping Plaza Bluefield Virginia to celebrate a 33 000 to 42 000 square foot expansion. Acme president Bob Downum noted department wide upgrades lighting and wider aisles with the deli and dining area rebuilt and the community room moved to a central rear location. Garland Mc Queen serves as store manager and 80 associates work at the site. Bluefield High School Pep Club Band performed as Sandy Downam cut the ribbon.
