In Ironton Ohio on Symes Creek Charles Shafer killed his eight year old son and his wife shortly after a brutal beating. The mother in law was wounded but survived. A violent incident followed a prior reconciliation attempt as Shafer faced arrest and escaped on bond. Police hunt for the accused killer.
Parkersburg West Virginia June 13 a twelve year old boy Frank Crouser was killed in a mill yard accident his clothing caught in a revolving shaft and he was hurled about six hundred times in two minutes his clothing torn away as the wheel kept turning he died a few minutes after being found
Boston fans gathered to see a game between the Boston American League club and Providence in a benefit match for Chick Stahl's widow. Both clubs played free, with extra contributions including 50 from each American League club and 500 from the Boston club.
Cincinnati beat Philadelphia 5 to 2 while Chicago defeated Brooklyn 4 to 2. St Louis edged Boston 1 to 0. Pittsburgh and New York rain halted play. In the American League Philadelphia defeated Cleveland 6 to 5. Washington and Detroit played on wet grounds and New York won 3 to 4 against Chicago.
A San Francisco jury of twelve found Mayor Eugene E. Schmitz guilty of the crime of extortion as charged by the Oliver grand jury. The panel deliberated one hour and thirty five minutes, with initial votes 11 to 1 for conviction. Mayor Schmitz declared he is innocent and complained of unfair trial conditions and vowed to seek justice in another court.
Boise, Idaho June 13. The case versus William D. Haywood’s supporters grows heated as Harry Orchard endures a brutal six hour cross examination. The defense assails his motives and confessed crimes while Orchard seeks to portray conversion and penitence. He denies coercion and maintains McPartland promised no exemption for truth. Orchard, who has testified at length, is later to face further questions and redirection. He also identifies the bomb casing tied to the Denver judge’s house and recounts the Steunenberg assassination.
Will Champion a leading tie contractor in Paducah shot and killed his brother-in-law Tracey and Tracey's lover Grace Browning at a Lyon county camp. A double-barrel shotgun and a revolver were used. Champion surrendered at Eddyville and faces possible acquittal.
The body of Coxswain Robert H. Dodson of the Minnesota’s ill fated launch was found floating in Hampton Roads. Reports that other crew members were recovered circulated and were denied by Admiral Thomas and the navy yard.
The Southern Hardware Jobbers Association in Richmond elected John Donnan as president and Henry N. Miller as vice president. Executives named were W. O. Baker Bruce Keen C. H. Ire land and E. W. A. Parker. The president will appoint a secretary while the National Hardware Manufacturers Association meets in the same city. Both groups held executive sessions.
The board of regents reversed a prior move and reinstated the senior course at Concord Normal at Athens and other affected schools. The decision was reported to The Daily Telegraph by Pot J. F. Holbrood from Clarksburg and welcomed in the region.

William J. Ryan spoke to a large audience in Lincoln Nebraska on June 13 with William Jennings Bryan declaring this is the best government on earth though with serious faults to fix. Cochran and Bryan spoke to separate graduating classes at the same event.
Associated Press reports Mrs Telfair Hodgson of Chattanooga died suddenly during a dinner gathering tonight. The event occurred as guests were present, with authorities noting an unexpected fatal collapse. No further details on cause or attendees were immediately released.

A five story piano factory in New York caught fire this morning causing $200000 in property loss. One worker died of excitement after seeing the flames and George Thompson, an employee across the street, screamed my job's gone and collapsed from heart disease. Twenty firemen were overcome by smoke.
