Artist Simpson blends fantasy with children in evocative works

Artist Simpson describes his goal to expand into comic books and develop characters with stories in words and pictures. He recalls creating Sunday Morning, a 1997 painting of a girl in Sunday dress with a frog before the Easley house, signaling a shift toward shocking, nontraditional art. He paints children to soften fantasy art’s reception and advocates commissions from his studio, where he works weekdays from noon to six.
