Textile Strikers Scatter Nails on Highway in Morristown

Morristown Tenn June 12 CID textile strike pickets were ordered away from the American Enka Corp after scattering tire piercing nails and tacks. Tennessee Safety Commissioner Sam K Neal said 18 pounds of nails and tacks were picked up from the road in a week. He removed the pickets but warned they may return if disturbances resume. Gov Gordon Browning had 75 highway patrolmen deployed to quell sporadic violence during an 11 week strike. National guardsmen patrolled for ten days but were sent home last week.
