Captain Errol Boyd and two companions are forced down after a flight from Seville Spain to Havana. Spanish fliers complete a long-jaunt while twenty four Italian planes prepare for an overseas flight to Chicago.
Jimmie Mattern left Khabarovsk for Nome while a New York to Haiti nonstop flight failed to reach its target. Other crews completed or neared completion on various routes including St Mare near Port au Prince, Seville to Havana, and Bogota hops. In Italy, 24 planes with 96 men prepared at Orbetello for a staged Chicago takeoff under Balbo. Balbo and two assistants planned a 4538 mile New York to Kaunas nonstop, weather permitting.
Jimmie Mattern began a crucial leg of his solo round the world flight from Khabarovsk toward Nome Alaska. He aimed to cross the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea with minimal stops while contending with heavy water and headwinds.
Evidence presented at a Glenview coroner inquest linked the World’s Fair sightseeing plane crash to potential criminal negligence. Officials said the aircraft may have been unsafe at takeoff after Lake Michigan departure, with pilot Car Vickery allegedly struggling to lift off and steering toward Pal-Waukee Airport for repairs. Identified victims include Harrington Jacobs, Edward Fay, Stephanie Ogorek, Edward Schaller, Joseph Robinson, and Ida Goodwin, with two bodies unnamed.
Charleston report notes Attorney General Homer A. Holt issued two opinions clarifying the county school unit law. Blessing say they will seek a permanent injunction in Kanawha county to halt the law, in a case funded by unidentified taxpayers.
Washington June 12 Five hours of debate tomorrow will pave the way for a Senate vote likely sending the industrial recovery bill to the president for signature at 4 p m in an agreed timetable. Critics from Clark Long and Borah protest amendments while Wagner defends the price fixing ban and monopoly provisions.
Boston June 12 The battle over repealing the eighteenth amendment moves to Massachusetts as voters choose delegates to a constitutional convention. Massachusetts would be the eleventh state to vote for repeal, with ten states already signaling repeal. Prohibition supporters expect enough states to keep prohibition in the constitution. Forty five delegates will be chosen, three per each of the fifteen districts.
London officials say Britain may default on its wartime debt to the United States after an emergency cabinet session. French and American leaders push for currency stabilization and quick settlement of debts as Prime Minister MacDonald and Chancellor Chamberlain weigh a note to Washington.
Washington reports a last minute deal on the Glass-Steagall bank bill to insure deposits. The compromise allows deposits up to 2500 dollars from January 1, 1934 and broad insurance rules through a new corporation with currency reserves and federal support, aimed at a unified national banking system.
Senator Hatfield of West Virginia, surgeon, testified on veterans health advocating the Cutting amendment. He described Peter J. Reno of Passaic New Jersey as having one lung removed and the other in bad shape after being gassed in the war. The examination occurred in Hatfield's Washington office after Reno traveled from New Mexico for treatment. Reno praised the thorough examination, noting responses from more than a dozen doctors.
Welch West Virginia June 12 Bailey Scott, a Black resident of Eckman, sat on his porch during a storm when lightning struck the house. He lost his front teeth, the only reported damage.

Edward Gerald Riggins, son of Mr and Mrs Percy D Riggins, drowned at 8 30 pm after falling into a three foot spring near his home. Despite 15 minutes in water, resuscitation attempts failed.
President Roosevelt and White House aides publicized no concessions beyond the house administration compromise on veteran benefits. Senate and House conferees remained deadlocked, with Byrnes promising to report disagreement to the Senate, while Democrats refused to shift from the approved terms.
Nome, Alaska awaits Jimmie Mattern as the aviator leaves Khabarovsk on a 2500 mile leg across the Okhotsk Sea Kamchatka and ice choked Bering Sea. Poor visibility and fog slow progress with temperatures around 45 below zero. Mattern is expected to reach Nome between 5 and 6 am western Alaska time, tomorrow.
Frank E F Burst 60 of Indianapolis was killed when he stepped or fell in front of a Pittsburgh bound passenger train on a siding near Elm Grove Wheeling. He left a widow and two children. Seconds later an autos struck by a west bound B and O passenger train in Triadelphia driven by Tony Cazerons 45. police say he was inexperienced.
Washington reports that Bluefield voters name candidates for the city board today. In West Virginia, Robert A. Fechner pledged a speedy investigation into complaints of improper conduct by conservation corps workers. Letters from Dr. W. E. Whiteside, N. A. Loughry, and G. W. Shipley allege rowdy behavior, hoodlum attitudes, harassment of women, and property violations at reforestation camps.
Mrs. Benjamin P. Collings identified Frank Dreger as a man resembling the killer who boarded the Collings yacht in Long Island Sound in 1931 and killed her husband. Dreger and Joseph Guarino were arrested in Darien with silverware stolen from John Nickerson’s home, and Dreger was jailed in Bridgeport as detectives review the case.
Hobert Cecil twenty native of Cuba is dead and William Mack alias Geech forty seven colored is being sought after a third murder among Bluefield’s colored residents in under thirty days. Cecil was shot at Mamie Wright’s Peck Street home around 12 30 yesterday morning and died en route to the Bluefield sanitarium.
Bluefield nominates candidates today for a city board of directors race with ten of sixteen contenders advancing to the July 5 general election. Polls open at 6 30 a m and close at 6 30 p m at fifteen voting places across wards and precincts. a midweek meeting will follow the election day.
New York June 12 A defense witness Garrard Winston counsel to National City directors says 1800000 paid to officers not personal income. Mitchell failed to report 666666.67 received in 1928 from the management fund as part of tax evasion charges. Winston adds he advised that payments from the fund were not proper deductions and could not be personal income.
