Coal Operators Hope for Large Lake Coal Shipment Increase
Pittsburgh June 12 The interstate commerce commission decision on lake cargo rates may double the 2,500,000 tons of bituminous coal shipped annually from Pittsburgh district mines to the northwest this season. An additional $2,500,000 in mine payrolls will be distributed. The new rate lowers Pittsburgh area coal to 1.46 per ton, while Southern rate is 1.71. The commission says the 25-cent differential is discriminatory.
