Washington reports Minister Takahira says negotiations progress favorably though Tokyo delays publishing the Japanese note. Europe remains unconvinced peace will come from the Roosevelt plan with Russia and Japan still distant from terms.
Baltimore reports a naval war game with Dickens' squadron testing Fort Howard defenses and sinking torpedo boat destroyers in simulated combat. Forts and ships staged demonstrations while Fortress Monroe notes secrecy and high tension as the exercise unfolds near Washington and Baltimore.
A Miller wild west exhibition before the National Editorial Association at a 20,000 crowd venue turned chaotic as nineteen injured when a grandstand collapsed and four stock animals broke loose. A second collapse injured fourteen more during a dramatic chase as cowboys pursued a steer and a rider leaped aboard.
The Tidewater railway proposes wharves and docks along the western edge of the southern branch with 600 feet frontage and 700 feet length. Plans show Portsmouth terminals south of Paradise Creek, 40 acres acquired from the Portsmouth Company, three docks 700 feet long, piers 75 feet wide, bulkheaded shoreline for nearly a mile, nine tracks for sidings, and a main line crossing the southern branch. The west bound Pennsylvania Special left New York at 8 55 Sunday and arrived in Chicago at 8 50 this morning, three minutes ahead of schedule. A hot box at Manefield Ohio caused a fifteen minute delay. The east bound Special reached Chicago at 9 22, also an eighteen hour run. The distance New York to Chicago is 904.4 miles.
In Syracuse on June 12 Miss Anna Dodge a Bel mont Belmount? Alleghany county school teacher and State Sunday school delegate arrived unbonneted and ungloved. She says she saves the money for hats and gloves to support a native worker in India and to do home missionary work. She is described as a brunette with abundant hair and does not look like a country teacher.
Cumberland Md June 12 An injury from a runaway near Meyersdale yesterday may prove a blessing for Ralph Knepper. He had one leg shorter after a wagon accident at age four, but the current fall and broken left leg may allow the bones to heal to equal length.
West Virginia chatter centers on Senator Stephen B. Elkins as he nears re election. Despite the Second district shift toward Democrats, Elkins remains secure with Republican support and allies like Max Lanstreet backing him in key mining regions.
Rumor says Tidewater and Norfolk and Western plan a Roanoke depot and possibly share the new N and W passenger station. Tidewater is purchasing rights of way with growing activity on the eastern end, while harbor officials approve bridges across the Elizabeth River branches.
Pitteton, pa. June 12. Ferdinand Macarania was lowered into an abandoned mine and recovered the missing head of Frank Carter, an Italian storekeeper, whose boy was found near the shaft last Tuesday. The head bears four bullet holes and mutilation. county detectives pursue clues. no arrests yet.
Salem Virginia June 12. Henry Henderson colored of Salem was shot and killed at his door by Alexander Mayo during a Saturday night altercation over a woman. Mayo fired a double barrel shotgun about 2 am and fled. authorities expect his capture soon.

Warren Blackwell alias Harry Edwards, accused of shooting Mine Rosa Pireor at Elkhorn, was captured by a combined posse near Falls Mills after a gunfight. He was wounded and taken to Graham for surgical care as Baldwin Detective Agency aided the arrest. Mine Bees Pitzer is recovering at St Luke's Hospital.
Berwind White coal combine plans a coal pier and mechanical handling plant at Norfolk Virginia to handle output from new mines. The syndicate owns 3500 acres bought for 450000 and 4000 acres for 600000 in the New River West Virginia field. The project could make Norfolk a major coal shipping point comparable to Baltimore.
