Pope seeks forgiveness on abuse scandal at Vatican Mass
Pope Benedict XVI urged forgiveness from abuse victims and pledged to do all possible to protect children during a Mass in St Peter's Square attended by 15,000 priests. Victims groups dismissed the vows as insufficient without a plan to root out offending priests, expose protecting bishops, and reform Vatican policies. The Mass closed the Vatican’s Year of the Priest amid new abuse revelations and calls for accountability.
