Flood floods Abbs Valley home in unprecedented rush
The Pars Mitchem family in Abbs Valley Virginia faced a sudden wall of muddy floodwaters around 5 30 p m Wednesday devastating their home while sparing the family. Flooding spread through nearby areas as autos and furniture were swept away dozens of yards into the yard. Jimmy Mitchem and his family escaped as they watched floors give way and snakes float by in the rushing water. The home suffered severe structural damage with floors, furniture, a freezer and a couch carried away. Residents in Pocahontas Boissevain and elsewhere evacuated until fears subsided while authorities assess the strange watershed source. The family mourns the loss of irreplaceable items including a leather bar built when Parris Mitchem left service.
