Welch house fire destroys abandoned structure on Mullins Street
A Monday afternoon fire on Mullins Street in Welch destroyed an abandoned house and drew Welch and Kimball Fire Departments. The blaze began around 4 44 p m and was under investigation hours later as crews remained on scene until about 7 p m.

McDowell County DUI Checkpoints Planned for Friday
The McDowell County Sheriff's Office will run two DUI checkpoints on Friday June 13. One set will be at Route 635 and Route 83, with an alternate at Route 83/5 and 5/5, per Sgt James Muncy. The second site will be at Route 16 and 83 along Route 52 and Route 83 to R0.
