Woman terrors by ex husband spurs fear and calls for protection
Janet Pearson, living in hiding in Arkansas, says the system failed battered women as police hunt fugitive Marvin Pearson, who escaped Benton County Jail days after a Christmas Eve kidnapping and terrorizing his ex wife and daughter with a sawed off shotgun. Two drivers Marty Nash age 25 of Falls Mills Virginia and Leroy Anderson age 66 of Hinton were hospitalized in guarded condition at Princeton Community Hospital after a head-on collision near the Lerona post office on U S Route 20 at about 12 31 a m Three passengers in Nash s car Beverly Caudill 20 of Bluefield Thomas Thompson 20 also injured were treated and released Angie Akers 20 of Bluefield was unharmed State police noted no charges yet and the case remains under investigation Princeton Rescue Squad transported the injured. In Williams burg Virginia a capital murder case involves Lloyd T Christian Sr 56 charged in the death of Maxine Bartlett and a friend at Eastern State Hospital He previously served 10 days in jail for beating her with a two by four board and other abuse per a police statement. A shelter director said Bartlett moved to a battered women s shelter in Portsmouth for safety. General District Judge J R Zepkin sentenced Christian to six months in jail with time served and fines totaling 150 plus a two year no contact order. He paid 20 of the fine and faces a June 14 court date for the rest. Later that week Ms Bartlett and Van Overby were shot to death in the hospital parking lot.
