Lawmakers chide Regents over faculty pay plan
West Virginia legislators criticized the Board of Regents plan to distribute 1985 pay raise funds, noting potential inequities as Gov. Moore vetoed an $1800 cap. They questioned authority to approve post veto raises and warned top-earners could gain 8 to 10 percent under a $300,000 market adjustment pool.

Gee cites legislative centralization as key factor in WVU departure
West Virginia University President E Gordon Gee says a push for centralized higher education classification and a $1800 faculty pay cap by legislators helped push him to leave for the University of Colorado. He notes the move would harm the university and signals a broader need for university autonomy and flexibility.

Virginia peanut crop forecast seen as excellent
Virginia's 1985 peanut crop is expected to be excellent and worth about 80 million dollars says Russell C. Schools executive secretary of the Virginia Peanut Growers Association and chairman of the National Peanut Council's export committee. He notes export sales should rise and that changes to the federal peanut program won't take effect until 1986. Virginia has about 4,000 growers on 97,000 acres with quota peanuts supported at 543.02 per ton and 148 per ton for additional peanuts.
